Joseph Telemala

Joseph P. Telemala is a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Information Technology at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He also holds an MSc in Computer Science from Mahatma Gandhi University, India, and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. With over 13 years of experience in academia, he has served in various capacities, including Tutorial Assistant, Assistant Lecturer, and Lecturer, contributing to the academic growth of SUA. He has also taught part-time at the University of Cape Town and Mzumbe University.
His primary research interests lie in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), particularly focusing on the development of AI-driven solutions for climate change adaptation, healthcare, and agricultural information dissemination. He is actively involved in research on IR systems for low-resourced languages, digital extension services, and computer science education. His work emphasizes using artificial intelligence to bridge critical information gaps in underserved communities, aiming to improve access to knowledge in agriculture, health, and education.
